Bone Marrow Transplant

In 2008, The St. Francis Foundation is embarking on a capital campaign to expand the center into a Center of Excellence for Hematologic Malignancy – converting more rooms, creating more resources, augmenting more specialized staff and investing in more technology right here in our community.  And, as a key component to that center, there will be a Lead Spiritual Nurse, on hand to help the entire staff tend to patients’ spiritual treatment in addition to the medical.  Will, support and faith can be key in recovery, and, as Dr. Spitzer says, "From the right person – the touch, the sincerity, the sensitivity – it really has an impact."

Since 1999, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System has been collaborating with Cancer Centers of the Carolinas to provide leading edge treatments of blood cancers.  They created the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program and opened a dedicated inpatient section within the Batson Cancer Center.  This unique center that services some of the most difficult cancers has augmented the healing mission of St. Francis in such a meaningful way.  And the center itself is certainly unique in its dedication to healing through care on top of medicine.  But it can still do more.

"A much softer environment for such
harsh treatment."
